Dixie Deb - Harley for Life!

Yo Dix! I want to get my own bike too...

Women often ask me about riding their own and this is what I have to say-

Ya wanna ride solo, eh? why? Don't ya like being pretty? huumm... then I look at 'em real serious. But really girlfriend... WHY? As far as handling the bike- if you know you can, then you will love your machine! If it really scares you deep down inside, you will never be confident enough not be a threat to yourself or others. (as horses, they know if you can ride them) If you truly don't know, well... you will find out!

And you know its a risky business! A beast machine... balanced with wings in movement... unbalanced lead when not. Hugging the road and flying free... sucked and pulled and drowned. Warm days traveling with the sun... monsoons at midnight hobbling in. Broken down along some country road, digging through your saddlebag hoping you have what you need. Rough, I tell ya... scary, yet glorious! But shit does happen... and you must sit your own ass down hard in that saddle and ride that bitch out of trouble... alone...

There is no shame in packing behind your ol' man... I am jealous of you in many ways! If I had not rode my own, I would have gotten to ride snugged up behind my man. Through the good & the bad... with him in control! And true- lots of men are attracted to the biker woman... but when she rides her own, she may just be a bit too much to handle. Fantasy & Fact in their face! And a few men you just plain piss off no matter how cute you are. There are men I wished I hadn't intimidated? or intrigued? something like that...

All I'm saying is... (and I'd say this to anyone) Don't do it for fun... this is not a game! Don't do it for looks... it does damage you, you know? Don't do it be tough... if ya are, ya are... if not, a bike won't help. Don't do it for your ol'man... or anybody else! Only do it because you love it.. because you live for it.. because you may die for it.. And if that happens, at least others will know it was worth it.. to you

Can you ride? probably. Do you wanna ride? WHY?

Dixie Deb

p.s. I wrote this after years of watching more than a few disasters. It seems that there are always some men who meet me, who believing and wanting to prove that their ol' ladies are equally as tough, push these women to ride solo. The bruised bikes and bodies, the shouting matches, and the hurt feelings that ensued were not a pretty picture. HEY GUYS- If she wants to ride, she will tell you! Don't push her where she isn't ready to go! Being a great biker ol'lady has nothing to do with whether she rides her own!

p.s.s. It is probably better that she learn from someone else... you just make her nervous!
